PEEK innovates gear materials, ushering in a new era of efficient transmission

Gear transmission is a precise, efficient, safe and reliable transmission method, which is widely used in various fields. Its working principle mainly relies on the teeth on the wheel rim to transmit motion through the continuous meshing between two gears. This continuous operation requires that the material of the gear must have sufficient strength and hardness, and the surface needs to be smooth to reduce friction and wear. Metal materials are widely used due to their hardness and strength, but with the development of technology, PEEK gears are gradually valued for their excellent wear resistance, fatigue resistance and self-lubricating properties.

In modern industry, the role of gears is crucial. Whether it is a transmission system, a steering system, or a liquid delivery system, the performance of the gears directly affects the efficiency, stability and durability of the entire system. However, traditional metal gears have problems such as large processing errors, high costs, difficult installation, and long manufacturing cycles during the processing process, and are prone to large friction noise and easy damage in daily use. Therefore, finding high-performance gear materials has become a major trend in the development of major industries.

PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is a high-performance engineering plastic with many advantages that traditional metal materials cannot match. PEEK materials have excellent wear resistance and lightweight, which makes gears made of PEEK have minimal wear in long-term use, thereby significantly reducing maintenance costs. In addition, PEEK gears are self-lubricating and do not require additional lubricants, which not only reduces the complexity of maintenance but also improves the reliability of the system.

PEEK materials have gradually attracted more and more attention due to their excellent performance. Compared with traditional metal materials, gears made of PEEK have the following significant advantages:

High wear resistance

PEEK stands out in gear applications with its excellent high wear resistance. It not only shows excellent self-lubricating properties, but also maintains a low wear rate in a variety of environments. Even in the face of harsh conditions up to 260MPa, its ability to resist sliding and rolling wear remains unchanged, ensuring long-term stability and reliability.

In order to further meet the stringent requirements of high-speed and high-load components, Junhua Co., Ltd. has carefully launched PEEK5600SWR particles and their products, with wear resistance as low as half of PEEK5600CF30, providing a more durable and non-breakage solution for high-load components, ensuring the long-term and efficient operation of the equipment.

High Strength

PEEK material stands out for its excellent strength characteristics, and its performance indicators significantly exceed POM. Even in high temperature environments, PEEK can still maintain excellent mechanical properties. The tensile strength of PEEK5600CF30 modified by carbon fiber composite reaches 230MPa, which is twice that of pure PEEK.

On this basis, PEEK5600CF30-GQ high-strength particles and products were developed, which not only inherited the original advantages of PEEK5600CF30 such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and friction resistance, but also had a tensile strength of up to 260MPa, which was 15% higher than PEEK5600CF30, making it an ideal choice for high-stress components such as isolation sleeves for magnetic pumps.

Self-lubricating

With its excellent self-lubricating properties, PEEK material significantly reduces friction and wear, thereby reducing unnecessary energy loss and noise pollution, effectively extending the service life of transmission components such as gears, and significantly reducing the cost of subsequent maintenance. PEEK gears can form a stable transfer film at the moment of friction with the mating gears. Even in the process of the transfer film gradually adapting to and reaching a stable friction state, the stability of this film can be maintained, thereby ensuring a stable friction coefficient and an extremely low level of wear rate.

In addition, PEEK gears also significantly reduce the potential contamination of lubricants to the product. Compared with traditional metal gears, they are quieter and more durable, providing strong support for the stable operation of various mechanical systems.

Corrosion resistance

PEEK exhibits excellent chemical stability. It has extraordinary resistance to a wide range of organic solvents, greases, weak acids and weak bases. Except for concentrated sulfuric acid, PEEK is almost insoluble in other acid and alkali solutions and organic solvents. Its corrosion resistance is comparable to that of nickel steel.

Not only that, PEEK also has extremely low water absorption characteristics. The saturated water absorption rate at 23°C is only 0.5%. This feature ensures its stability and reliability in humid environments. Its excellent hot water resistance is even better. Even in pressurized hot water or steam environments up to 260°C, PEEK can still maintain its excellent performance, fully demonstrating its unique advantages as a special engineering material.

Lightweight

PEEK material stands out for its ultra-low density (only 1.3), which is significantly lighter than traditional commonly used metal materials. Gears made of PEEK material have achieved significant weight reduction compared to metal gears. This lightweight advantage not only helps to reduce the overall load and inertia of the entire equipment, but also directly reduces the moment of inertia, thereby improving the torque-to-weight ratio and torque-to-inertia ratio, making the equipment show better performance in response speed, power transmission efficiency and overall energy consumption control.

In addition to the excellent properties mentioned above, PEEK material also ensures the stability and reliability of PEEK gear components under extreme working conditions with its excellent high temperature resistance, outstanding strength and reliable flame retardant properties, significantly extending the service life. Therefore, PEEK material is widely used in many industries and has become an indispensable key material for improving equipment performance and ensuring operational safety.

With the advancement of industrial upgrading and domestic substitution, China’s PEEK gear market is growing, which puts higher requirements on materials, not only to reduce costs, but also to improve performance and efficiency, reduce weight and achieve miniaturization. The emergence of PEEK material is the ideal choice to meet these challenges. It not only meets the high performance requirements of future systems, but also brings new possibilities for the development of gear transmission technology.
