PEEK characteristics and advantages

I. Material Overview PEEK and PI are high-performance materials synthesized and patented by Victrex of the UK and DuPont of the US respectively. PEEK and PI have excellent comprehensive performance in high-performance polymers that other general-purpose plastics cannot match. They have excellent performance suitable for various harsh environments and have been successfully and widely used in various industries such as aerospace, automobiles, electronic semiconductors, and electromechanical applications with relatively demanding requirements. It is the preferred material for users to develop new products and improve product service life and reliability.   II. Characteristics and Advantages ◆ High temperature resistance The long-term use temperature of the US UL certification is 260℃. Even when the temperature reaches 300℃, it can still maintain good mechanical properties  ◆ Wear resistance In many extremely harsh application environments such as high temperature, high load, and strong corrosion, PEEK polymers and their composite materials have good wear resistance.   ◆ Self-lubrication has a low friction coefficient, can achieve oil-free lubrication, and can work for a long time in oil, water, steam, weak acid and alkali and other media.   ◆ Corrosion resistance is insoluble in common solvents and has good corrosion resistance to various organic and inorganic chemical reagents.   ◆ High strength has good mechanical strength in plastics. It also has high rigidity and surface hardness.   ◆ Easy to process. Parts can be directly processed by injection molding. Post-processing such as turning, milling, drilling, tapping, bonding and ultrasonic welding can be performed.   ◆ Hydrolysis resistance. In steam with a temperature exceeding 250℃ or immersed in high-pressure water, PEEK products can still work continuously for thousands of hours without obvious performance degradation.   ◆ Flame retardancy. Without using any additives, the flammability rating of a 1.45mm thick PEEK sample is UL94 V-0.   ◆ Low smoke and non-toxic combustion, the amount of smoke and toxic gas is particularly low.   ◆ Electrical properties can still maintain stable and excellent electrical properties in a wide range of temperature and frequency.   ◆ Radiation resistance has extremely strong resistance to high-dose gamma-ray radiation, and the mechanical properties can be fully retained, and can be used as radiation-resistant parts in nuclear equipment.   ◆ Dimensional stability disadvantages   ■ The injection process is harsh and the machining process requirements are high.
