National Standard for Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) Resin

The National Standardization Administration issued Document No. 40 (2019) “Notice of the National Standardization Administration on Issuing the Fourth Batch of Recommended National Standard Plans in 2019”, which issued the National Standard Development Plan for Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) Resin, with the project number 20194348-T-606. The standard plan project was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, under the jurisdiction of the Plastics Standardization Technical Committee, and implemented by the Engineering Plastics Sub-Technical Committee of the Plastics Standardization Technical Committee.

The company participated in the online video discussion on the draft national standard for polyetheretherketone (PEEK) resin and the 2021 Annual Meeting and Standard Review Meeting of the Engineering Plastics Branch of the Plastics Standardization Technical Committee (TC15/SC9), and put forward many constructive suggestions to further promote the improvement of the standards.

Online video discussion meeting on the draft of the national standard

On the morning of December 15, 2021, the video discussion meeting on the draft of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) resin of the Plastics Branch of the Plastics Standardization Technical Committee was launched online. Jiangsu Junhua Special Plastics attended this online meeting as a participating unit in the formulation of national standards.

The standard drafting unit Jilin Zhongyan Co., Ltd. reported on the formulation of the standard at the meeting. Representatives of various companies and technicians, including Mou Jianxin, general manager of Changchun Jida Special Plastics, Tan Zongshang, deputy general manager of Jiangsu Junhua Special Plastics, and Yu Shundong, director of Zhejiang Pengfulong, discussed the contents of the draft standard, expressed their opinions on product naming rules, physical and chemical performance requirements, test methods, storage time, etc., conducted concentrated discussions, and put forward many constructive suggestions. The leaders of the Standardization Committee working group and the review group reviewed the draft of the national standard “Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) Resin” and the preparation instructions (draft for comments) submitted by the standard drafting group. After carefully listening to the needs and opinions of the enterprises, they put forward opinions and suggestions based on the views of all parties to further improve the applicability and feasibility of the standard.

National Standard Review Meeting

From December 20 to 22, 2021, the Engineering Plastics Branch of the Plastics Standardization Technical Committee (TC15/SC9) held its 2021 Annual Meeting and Standard Review Meeting in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. As an annual exchange event in the plastics industry, this meeting attracted many industry representatives to attend. General Manager Li Jun and his R&D department were invited to attend.

The Technical Committee for Standardization of Plastic Products was established in 1984. It is mainly responsible for the formulation of the standard system table of national standards and industry standards for plastic products, the declaration of national standard plans, and the organization of the formulation and revision of national standards and industry standards through subcommittees. The themes of this meeting include the annual meetings of TC15SC4 and SC10 branches, and the TC15, TC15SC4, TC15SC9, and TC15SC10 standard review meetings and summary meetings.

TC15SC9 was chaired by Wang Jiandong, Secretary-General of the Engineering Plastics Branch of the Plastics Standardization Technical Committee. The meeting summarized the main work content of the Engineering Plastics Branch in 2021 and the progress of related application standards. During the meeting, industry representatives actively spoke and exchanged ideas. Tan Zongshang, Vice President of Operations and Director of the Engineering Technology Research Center, spoke enthusiastically at the national standard review meeting for “Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) Resin” and put forward many constructive suggestions.

The significance of national standard formulation

Currently, there is no standard for polyetheretherketone resin, and no relevant standards have been issued in China. This makes it impossible for domestic manufacturers to produce PEEK resin products according to certain specifications, and the quality of each product varies. The formulation of this standard aims to promote the healthy development of the domestic PEEK industry, provide a reliable reference basis for the research and production of PEEK resin in my country, and also play a role in providing high-quality products in the fields of electronics, aerospace, and medical equipment.
