JUNHUA®PEEK
Compared with ordinary engineering plastics, special engineering plastics have higher mechanical properties at room temperature. For example, the room temperature tensile strength of polyetheretherketone (PEEK5600G) is 95MPa (test standard: ISO 527), and the room temperature tensile strength of polypropylene (PP M1200HS) is 40MPa (test standard: ISO 527). The difference between the two is that special engineering plastics still have excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures. This is mainly due to its higher glass transition temperature (Tg). For example, the Tg of PEEK5600G is 143°C (test standard: ISO11357-2), so its heat deformation temperature (HDT) is 160°C (test standard: ISO 75-2). As a sealing ring, the long-term use temperature can reach 260°C (test standard: UL 74685).

Pure PEEK grade PEEK5600G and 30% carbon fiber reinforced grade PEEK5600CF30 were selected to test the high temperature mechanical properties of both. The microcomputer-controlled tensile testing machine (model: CMT5504) produced by Mester was used to perform high temperature bending and compression tests to indicate their high temperature mechanical properties. The test standards: bending, ISO 178; compression: ISO 604. The test results are shown in Figures 1 and 2:
It can be seen from Figures 1 and 2 that with the increase of temperature, the mechanical properties gradually decrease, especially when the test temperature rises to above 150℃, the performance decreases more. This is mainly because the Tg of PEEK is 143℃. When the test temperature is higher than Tg, the PEEK molecular chain begins to move; the higher the temperature, the more violent the molecular chain movement, and the more the mechanical properties decrease. When the test temperature is lower than Tg, the PEEK molecular chain hardly moves, so the mechanical properties decrease less. It is also worth noting that by reinforcing PEEK with carbon fiber, its mechanical properties can be greatly improved. Even at 234℃, the mechanical strength is still above 100 MPa.
