Starting from the “core”, see how PEEK material “extends the life” of refrigeration compressor valves

The life of the compressor valve of refrigeration equipment depends largely on the performance of the valve plate. The valve plate needs to withstand repeated loads in high pressure, high temperature and corrosive environments. Therefore, the material selection of the valve plate is particularly critical. The use of metal valve plates is prone to sparks when rubbed or hit, which may not only cause safety accidents, but also damage other components in the refrigeration system. Secondly, the performance of metal will be significantly reduced in a corrosive environment, and pits are easily formed on the surface, which not only affects the air tightness of the valve, but also may accelerate the wear of the valve plate and reduce its service life. In contrast, PEEK has excellent fatigue resistance, and its fatigue strength is more than twice that of metal, which means that PEEK valve plates have a longer service life under repeated loads. At the same time, PEEK’s impact resistance is also very excellent and it is insensitive to notches. Even if cracks appear on the valve plate during use, PEEK can effectively prevent the cracks from continuing to expand, thereby maintaining the integrity of the valve and reducing abnormal wear of other components inside the compressor caused by valve failure. In addition, the density of PEEK is only 1.3g/cm³, which is much lower than the density of metal materials. This makes the PEEK valve plate consume less power when it hits, which helps to reduce the energy consumption of the compressor. At the same time, the braking noise of the PEEK valve plate is also smaller, which is undoubtedly an important advantage for refrigeration equipment that needs to maintain low noise operation. In view of the environment in which the valve plate is located, PEEK composite materials reinforced with glass fiber or carbon fiber should be selected. Valve plates made of PEEK5600CF30 or PEEK5600GF30 can better adapt to high pressure, high temperature and corrosive environment, ensure the long-term stable operation of the compressor, reduce the frequency of fault maintenance, and improve the efficiency and stability of the entire refrigeration system.
